So growing up, some of us tend to have our dreams and plans of how we want our career life to be and all we want to achieve. In some instances, it starts before we have kids. Once I was in secondary school, I had an idea of the career part I wanted to pursue. I wanted to study law. As a stepping stone to law, I studied Criminology and I loved it. I enjoyed the analyzing and investigative nature of Criminology, and I applied for a job within that field.
During the application process, I got pregnant with my lovely daughter, Destiney. I knew I wanted to have quality time with her but at the same time, I wanted to work. However, the nature of the job I applied for, was one that required most of my time, and so I turned it down, to opt for something part-time. During this, I had contemplative thoughts all along.
My five reasons why I decided to be a stay-at-home mom.
Peace of mind.
For all the times I was away from my daughter, there was hardly any day I felt comfortable. I mostly wanted the work hours to be over with. It’s not that I did not like the job. I enjoyed doing the job very much. It allowed me to be hands-on with others, and develop the way in which I care for others. However, the problem was me having to be away from my daughter.
Fully present.
I did not want to give someone else the responsibility of raising my child. I am very passionate about motherhood, long before I became a mother. With that being said, it is my desire to have the experience throughout each stage of my child’s life, to be able to provide the care and support she needs.
To be able to homeschool.
I decided early on in motherhood I wanted to home-school. I thought there was no way I am going to be working a 9 to 5, and be able to dedicate my time to my homeschooler.
Flexibility and freedom.
Being a stay-at-home mother gives me more flexibility, once I manage my time wisely. When I say flexibility, I am speaking of being able to go to the grocery store when I like, taking a trip out of the country without feeling pressured, or even having the freedom to do multiple jobs, all while being at home. I mean, that’s an experience I believe every mother deserves.
Work from home.
Speaking of doing multiple jobs. I am able to work from home, to gain income without having to sacrifice my time away from my daughter.
